WorldSkills 2011: Team Austria take six medals

The Austrians put in an enviable performance at the 41st international skills championship, WorldSkills in London: 6 medals and 9th place in the country rankings.

Around 850 young people from 48 countries put their vocational skills to the test at the international skills competition, WorldSkills 2011 , in London from 5th to 8th October. Austria was there for the 27th time, represented by 28 participants from 26 different skill areas. Team Austria came back home with 6 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) and 12 Diplomas of Excellence. This exceptional performance secured 9th place in the country rankings for the Austrian team.

Austrian world championship contenders won gold medals in the skill areas Painting and Decorating, Confectioner/Pastry Cook and Construction Metal Work. The silver medal was awarded in the Plumbing and Heating category, while bronze medals went for Wall and Floor Tiling and Cooking.

Austrian teams have regularly participated in the world skills contests since 1961 and have won a total of 176 medals. The next WorldSkills International will be held in 2013 in Leipzig, Germany.
