International companies are choosing Austria

1 September 2016

International companies launched a total of 164 new investment projects in the first six months of 2016, with the amount invested more than trebling.

Mid-year figures posted by the ABA – Invest in Austria business settlement agency reveal a consistently positive trend in both the number of international companies locating in Austria and the inward investment realised.

The number of new investment projects undertaken by international firms has now increased to 164 (+8%), with investment totals also rising to EUR 480.6 million, three times as much as in the same period during the previous year (EUR 139.7 million); the number of jobs created by new business settlements dropped to 1,046, however.

Companies from Germany were once again the strongest group of investors, with 54 new ventures, representing about a third of all projects launched in the first six months of the year. Italy followed in second place with 21 new firms, and Austria has similarly lost none of its attractions as a business location for 33 companies from CEE/SEE countries, with the majority hailing from Hungary (9), followed by Slovenia (8) and Slovakia (4).

Austria is prized as a business location for its role as a hub facing Eastern and Southeastern Europe, its highly qualified workforce, its enduring stability and its legal security.
