Known as “the Cannes of Riesling”, the Canberra International Riesling Challenge is now in its 17th year, attracting entries from all of the major Riesling producing countries of the World. Entries are the highest since 2009 with over 500 entries from eight countries received, and we are particularly proud to announce that entry levels from Austria are the highest ever achieved.

Chair of the Canberra international Riesling Challenge, Ken Helm AM said the Challenge is delighted with the way that entry numbers have increased.

“We are particularly pleased with the surge in Austrian entries and the increased strength of the number of entries from Germany and the USA. Riesling is considered to be the wine that best expresses the growing site and conditions and the presence of wines from all of the great Riesling regions of the world is one of the things that makes the CIRC unique.”

“We see ourselves as being more than just another wine show, seeking to promote the greatest of all white wines, Riesling. We aim to increase both the public appreciation Riesling and the technical excellence of the wines that are produced. We are continually seeking ways to increase the understanding of Riesling.

This year, as well as our seminars and the Consumer tasting, we have taken some of our best wines to New Zealand for a tasting held at the Australian High Commission in Wellington, and we are planning promotional tastings during the week of the Riesling Challenge and afterwards”, Mr Helm said.
