Wine with Character: Domäne Wachau

13 March 2017

The Wachau Valley near the Danube River, west of Vienna, is well known as one of Austria’s premier white-wine regions. Here in Australia its Federspiel Grüner Veltliner and Riesling have established themselves as go-to Austrian whites. Domäne Wachau - one of Austria's largest wineries - is deeply rooted in the Wachau region, and its wines, notably Grüner Veltliner and to a lesser extent Riesling, have been available in Australia thanks to its long-standing partnership with Melbourne-based fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor CellarHand.

During his recent visit to Australia, Roman Horvath MW who has been at the helm of Domäne Wachau since the mid-2000s, found time to sit down and chat with CellarHand’s Ed Merrison. Click here for the interview - a must-read for anyone with an interest in Riesling and Grüner Veltliner from this underrated but en vogue wine-producing nation.
