National Energy Globe Awards Pakistan 2015/2016

Energy Globe Foundation is an Austrian non-profit organization fostering energy efficiency and renewable energies and a global leader in the area of sustainability. The primary objective is to create a higher level of awareness all over the world concerning the necessity of using resources in a sustainable manner.

The winners in Pakistan 2015 and 2016 were awarded by the Austrian Commercial Counsellor Richard Bandera in a ceremony at Avari Hotel in Lahore on 19th May. WWF-Pakistan received their prize for a Water Stewardship Project teaching sustainable water use and water management practices. Until 2025 SMEs across Pakistan´s main urban centers in the sectors textile, sugar, pulp and paper and leather tanning processing and manufacturing become good water stewards through the implementation of Best Water Management Practices.

This year´s award winner is the developer of the first ever utility scale, Photovoltaic Power Plant Quaid-e-Azam in the Cholistan Desert. 6.500 acres will be home to a 1.000 MW plant out of which 100 MW were so far realized and connected to the grid. The EPC-contract (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) was awarded to Chinese TBEA Xinjiang SunOasis, who also secured 75 % of the financing costs. Austrian companies contribute to the development of photovoltaic power production by supplying machinery for flat glas production (company LiSEC ) or solar inverters (Fronius ).
