Innovations Unlimited ME installs first PV solar panels in MSHEIREB project

22. September 2013

Qatar is still thriving with development and mega projects, recently, Qatar has moved a step forward in its dedication towards sustainable development through the first photovoltaic solar panels which have been installed in the first phase of the QR20 billion Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD) project.

The roof-mounted photovoltaic modules supplied by the Austrian company “KIOTO” and installed by Innovations Unlimited ME will supply a portion of the electricity needs of the buildings within Phase 1 of the development.
The buildings are being installed with 2,072 photovoltaic panels and 37 inverters, feeding 463.4kWp (kilowatts at peak power) of electricity and will feed directly into the power grid of the development, significantly reducing the buildings’ carbon emissions.
When Msheireb Downtown Doha is complete, the project will comprise of 5,200 solar panels across a total of 8,400 square-meter of onsite energy production in the form of both electricity and hot water. Besides, upon completion of the final phase, the solar PV system will reduce total greenhouse gas emissions by 568 metric tonnes, which is equivalent to 241,000 liters of petrol consumed each year.
Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al–Mehshadi, CEO at Msheireb Properties said “Adopting advanced clean technology such as solar energy in addition to traditional methods of climate management is a hallmark of the Msheireb project which will have one of the largest concentrations of LEED-certified buildings in the world on completion. Our partnership with Innovations Unlimited ME to install advanced solar power within Phase 1 of the development will help us move steadily towards achieving this goal.”
Innovations Unlimited ME was established in 2009 and has its headquarters in Doha, with a branch office in Bahrain. It provides innovative renewable energy products and services for small and large projects. The portfolio includes photovoltaic solutions, solar thermal water heating, solar cooling, building-integrated photovoltaic, solar street lights and wind energy solutions. KIOTO is the most renown modern producer of photovoltaic’s in the world with 125 megawatt capacity per annum, and a head office in Austria featuring the world’s most state-of-the-art photovoltaic system. The company has developed an innovative production process with a high degree of automation involving industrial robots and photoelectric sensors that ensure a consistently high quality standard for every individual PV module. The company considers R&D as a constituent focal point of its operations.
