Ambassador Dr. Wimmer started his duties in Riyadh

Dr. Johannes Wimmer has arrived in Riyadh to take over from his predecessor, Dr. Friedrich Stift, the post of the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Wimmer presented his credentials to HRH King Abdullah on January 11th 2009.

His former assignments include the post of Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum London / Cultural Counsellor to the Austrian Embassy London (2004-2008), Deputy Director of the Department for International Organizations at the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2000 -2004), Political Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York (1997-2000) as well as postings at the Austrian Embassies in New Delhi (1 st Secretary 1993-1997) and Damascus (Attaché 1992-1993).

Ambassador Wimmer, born on 15th October 1961 in Graz, Austria, entered the Austrian Foreign Service in 1991. He is a graduate of the Diplomatic Academy Vienna (1989-1991) and received his PhD (Dr. phil.) in History from the University of Graz (1988).
