Export continues to be THE growth pillar of the Austrian economy. Exports increased by 5.4% to EUR 49.5 bn.

Despite a slowdown in the world economy, Austria has been doing well in international trade. From January to May this year, Austrian exports rose by 5.4% to EUR 49.5 bn. Imports rose by 6.3% to EUR 49.3 bn, giving Austria a current trade surplus of EUR 200 m. The surplus is testament to the strength, inventiveness and international competitive power of Austrian companies. This shows once again that exports are THE growth driver of the Austrian economy - one in two jobs in Austria is dependent on exports.
