The number of foreign companies setting up business operations in Austria rose sharply in the first half of 2010. The economic backdrop, geographic location and quality of life were cited as motivating factors.

International companies have come to value Austria as a location for doing business. The half year report for 2010 is certainly positive for Austria when it comes to foreign companies setting up business – the number of successfully concluded projects rose from 84 to 93, an increase of 11%. According to ABA-Invest in Austria , the national investment promotion company, these companies have invested almost three times as much in Austria as in the first half of 2009, with EUR 103 million. At the same time, they have created around 500 new jobs. The second half year should – as long as the economic recovery continues – see a further upturn in the cyclically-sensitive business promotion sector.

Most new companies setting up business in Austria were from Germany (48), followed by Italy (8) and CEE (22). Vienna remains the most popular location, with 49 foreign companies establishing business operations. Other provinces attracting foreign business were Upper Austria with 13, and Salzburg and Lower Austria with 8 new foreign companies each.

Since it was founded in 1982, “ABA-Invest in Austria” has helped to bring EUR 5.65 billion to Austria and supported the creation of 39,120 new jobs.
