Energy Globe 2008: Austrian Companies World-Leaders in Environmental Technologies

Two Austrian companies reached the final of the Energy Globe competition 2008 in which more than 800 environment-friendly and innovative technology projects participated. One of them, Fronius International GmbH, won first prize in the category air.

Two Austrian companies reached the final of the Energy Globe competition 2008 in which more than 800 environment-friendly and innovative technology projects world-wide participated: Fronius International GmbH which produces 90% of the energy for its site in Sattledt (Upper Austria) by its own photovoltaics and biomass power plants, and Demon® from Strass in Tyrol with its "Powerhouse Wastewater Treatment Plant".

Fronius International GmbH won the first prize in the category air. In addition, they received the international Energy Globe which was awarded by the audience. The President of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce, Christoph Leitl, congratulated the company stressing the importance of the innovative and medium-sized Austrian family enterprise which has competed successfully with big companies. He said that Austrian companies are world-leaders not only in the development of but also in the application of environmental technology. This was shown by the Energy Globe competition 2008 in which the world-beating sustainable projects were awarded prizes.

The performance of the Austrian companies in the Energy Globe competition 2008 demonstrates that the Austrian economy is fit for the future in one of the most important markets, the environmental industry. 230 Austrian companies are working in the sector of renewable energy. In 2006, their business volume reached approx. 2.8 billion Euro. An exceptionally strong growth and an above-average export quota characterize this branch.
