From September 7 to 12, more than 200 international experts on education and formation from 49 nations will gather at Vienna to discuss different education and formation systems. Skills Austria  will celebrate its 50th anniversary during the general assembly of WorldSkills.

Beginning of September 2008, about 200 delegates of 49 nations are expected to come to Vienna in order to attend the general assembly of the international organisation WorldSkills (organizer of the occupational world championships). The conference is organized by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber . It will offer an opportunity to discuss the future of the vocational training of skilled labour and to plan for the upcoming international competitions.

The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber has been  member of WorldSkills since 1958. Since 1961, Austria has participated in WorldSkills events 25 times, 393 Austrian participants have won 162 medals and 125 certificates. Several times, Austria was given the title “best nation” – Lyon 1995, St. Gallen 1997, Montreal 1999). The next WorldSkills will take place in Calgary/Canada in 2009.

In September 2008, the vocational championship EuroSkills will take place for the first time. An Austrian team of 16 will participate in this championship which will be held at Rotterdam/Netherlands.
