Combine a day at the beach with an evening of performing arts

Austria is not only known for its delicious cuisine and beautiful landscapes, but also for its wide range of cultural events. Each summer the country hosts a huge number of festivals, often taking place in an open-air setting.

The most famous one takes place in Salzburg , the birthplace of Mozart, which attracts visitors and artists from all over the world. The festival traditionally starts with the spectacular play “Jedermann” by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, who is said to be one of the co-founders of the Salzburg Festivals in 1920. Within one and a half months more than 40 different operas, plays and concerts are performed.

Another very popular event is The Bregenz Festival . This year’s highlight is the opera Carmen with an breathtaking stage set designed by Es Devlin. The stage is located in lake Bodensee, completely surrounded by water. Guests may even arrive on water by means of a paddle steamer enjoying an aperitif or have dinner on board and disembark directly at the stage afterwards.

Styriarte , Tyrol Festival Erl and Carinthian Summer are smaller events designed for smaller groups of visitors. But still, the artistic performances, the unique architecture of innovative festival halls, beautiful monastery and castles enjoy great popularity.

Classical music has always been an important part of the Austrian culture, which is no surprise given the fact that it is the home of famous composers like Mozart, Haydn and Strauss. Dress up or put on some Lederhosen and enjoy a play, an opera or a concert in summerly Austria. The beach of a wonderful freshwater lake is never far away.
