Five questions to Alexander Stöckl

3. February 2016

We had a chance to ask Alexander Stöckl, a former Austrian ski jumper and the present head coach of the Norwegian ski jumping team, five questions.

What should a Swede visiting Austria not miss?
The Seegrube (Innsbruck from above). The view of the city from the mountain station at 2.000m is stunning. A traditional mountain hut you should definitely visit and enjoy good traditional and regional fare there. The city of Salzburg is for cultural reasons certainly worth a visit. (Mirabell Palace, the old town, the castle) Furthermore, the city of Vienna with the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, the Hofburg, the Opera and other cultural treasures is well worth seeing. The Großglockner as the highest mountain should also be on the list.

Is there a place in Austria you would recommend to Swedes?
Innsbruck. The city is located in the middle of the Northern Alps. Within a short time you are away from the city in nature.

What kind of food and drink should a Swede try in Austria?
Kaiserschmarrn can be eaten as a main dish or as a dessert. Schnaps is Austria's answer to akvavit.

Did you have a special (travelling-) experience in Scandinavia?
We were out in nature very much. I am fascinated by the combination of mountains and fjords. I really liked the Lofoten as a very special travel destination.

By which souvenir from Sweden would you be absolutely delighted?
brandy, cheese, bacon
