Successful test of joint cross-border emergency operation in Norway and Sweden

On 16 November, Norwegian and Swedish first responders held a field exercise at the border crossing of the European route E14 between Norway and Sweden.  A successful cross- border communication was demonstrated between the TETRA networks Nødnett (Norway) and Rakel (Sweden).

As part of the Norwegian-Swedish Inter-System Interface (ISI), Austrian high-tech company FREQUENTIS provided its latest ICCS 3020 software, enabling public safety agencies to communicate across national borders in case of crises and disaster.

The project itself represents an important milestone for the ISITEP, an EU-funded initiative developing technology and legal frameworks to ease communication between emergency response teams for public protection and disaster relief. The approved control center software will be applied by agencies starting in 2017, displaying an effective and user-friendly communication tool.

High ranking officials from Norway and Sweden attended the exercise, with The Norwegian Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anders Anundsen, and the Swedish Minister for Home Affairs, Anders Ygeman, taking the lead.
