Austrian Wood (much) more than timber

In the footsteps of wooden architecture around the Salzburg and Upper Austria region

Altogether 36 architects, building owners and scientist from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark visited the region of Salzburg and Upper Austria between 11 and 13 October 2016. Thus, taking advantage of the latest technology in wood construction and energy-efficient building. These regions have a long tradition of utilising timber for a wide range of constructions and other applications, which have been modernized and adapted to the demand of our times. Among the companies visited were Binderholz Bausysteme , Wiehag , Wag Wohnungsanlagen and Retrotimber . Enjoying the sunny and beautiful autumn weather the group visited various interesting wooden buildings like „House of Bread“ and Boarding School Winklhof as well as educational and research institutions FH/ HTL und Holztechnikum in Kuchl , Agrarausbildungszentrum in Altmünster and many more. The visits were interspersed with various events, networking dinners and presentations where the Nordics and Austrians had the opportunity to discuss various issues and exchange views and news.
