Easter celebration in Austria

31. March 2015

Easter Ham, Palmbusch and Eierpecken

In Austria, Easter Sunday is the most important day of the Easter holidays. This day often relatives and friends are invited for brunch or breakfast. In addition to painted eggs you will even find baked Easterham in bread and eggs of fine quality chocolate on the Easter table. Easter traditions also include a so-called Palmbusch, twigs decorated with beautiful Easter ornaments.

Colored eggs are hidden indoors or out in the garden. When all eggs are found one plays a game called Eierpecken where the aim is to knock off the top of the resistor eggs.Who manages to keep his egg intact longest is the winner. The highlight for the little ones is usually the hunt for candy-filled Easter eggs which the Easter bunny has hidden earlier in the day.
