Replacement of catenary system at commuter hotspot Östra railway station

SPL Powerlines Sweden, a subsidiary of the Austrian Powerlines Group GmbH, has been employed as a subcontractor for the Östra Station Project by Goodtech, whose client is Stockholm lokaltrafik (SL). The Östra railway station lies in Stockholm’s district Östermalm and it is the southern final stop of Roslagsbanen.  The renovation has become necessary because of the increasing number of travelers using public transportation.

Among other reconstruction, the catenary system will be renewed. It is the major task for SPL Powerlines Sweden to replace the whole catenary system. That means, 4.5 km of catenary wires have to be hooked up and 108 new cantilevers have to be installed.

Roslagsbanen links the inner city of Stockholm with its north-eastern suburbs and is an important part of the public transportation systems. The project is set to be finished by November 2015.

Last year SPL Powerlines Sweden completed the catenary project Mjöbly-Nassjö for Swedish client Trafikverket, representing a key reference.

The Powerlines Group has its headquarters in Wolkersdorf, Lower Austria and operates in the whole world. They  focus on the electrification of railways and the installation of power lines being one of Europe’s market leaders. The enterprise focuses on maximum output though bundling expertise in flexible small teams. SPL Powerlines Sweden had a turnover of EUR 33 368 000 with only 26 employees in 2014.
