Austrian Swietelsky renews Swedish railway tracks

30. September 2016

Unique track renewing machine from Austrian Plasser & Theurer puts up big action along the right-of-way

Austrian company Swietelsky has not only the necessary know-how and experience in quickly and efficiently renewing railway tracks but also the necessary machineries. After having accomplished similar projects in the Netherlands, the Swedish Transport Authority assigned Swietelsky for the first time to renew old railway tracks in Sweden. 15 km of track between Sala and Västerås were successfully renewed this year and another 75 km are about to be rebuilt next year.

The 700 m long Plasser & Theurer track laying and renewing machine is capable of rebuilding up to 300 m of railway track within just one hour. The machine cleans and replaces the balast and replaces the ties and tracks at the same time. Workers are only needed to refill the machine with the necessary materials for the new tracks.

The new track allows trains to ride at maximum track speed again and lets all trains to be on time. Especially commuters appreciate the work every day.
