Drivers can now break free of the hassles of long queues at car park exits as CapitaLand launched Singapore’s first automated complimentary ticket redemption system using SMS and license plate recognition (LPR) technologies at their world-renowned Raffles City shopping centre.
The purpose of investing in the LPR system is driven by CapitaLand’s objective of enabling users to redeem their complimentary parking via SMS so that congestions at the exit lanes, especially after major events or functions can be eliminated.
Though the system fulfils CapitaLand’s objective, CapitaLand’s observations revealed that the usage of ticket redemption by the use of SMS is still relatively low at around 25%. Hence, the congestions at the exit lanes are only alleviated by about 25% to date. In view of the low usage of SMS, CapitaLand has recently launched a publicity campaign by printing attractive posters, flyers and displaying them at Raffles City car park entrances, lobbies and the shopping mall to create awareness as well as to encourage higher usage.
CapitaLand entered a partnership with the two technology companies Wei Long Pte Ltd and Efkon AG, which contributed their experience to enable this new car park experience.
CapitaLand plans to deploy this innovative system to other major shopping centres across Singapore later this year.
