Forum on the occasion of the state visit of Austrian Federal President Dr. Alexander Van der Bellena to Slovakia

On April 26, his third bilateral state visit led the Austrian Federal President, Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, to Slovakia. Accompanied by finance minister Hans Jörg Schelling and the president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ), Mr. Christoph Leitl, he arrived via the Danube on the Twin city liner. Besides political meetings with top politicians in Bratislava, Advantage Austria organized an Austrian-Slovak Economic Forum in the evening.

About 200 managers of Austrian subsidiaries in Slovakia, Austrian businessmen and Slovak partners participated at this event. In their speeches, Vladimír Slezák, vice president of the Slovak Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Christoph Leitl, president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, as well as both head of states, Andrej Kiska and Alexander Van der Bellen, emphasized in a pro-European tone the need for an ongoing economic cooperation. The main topics were the challenges of finding qualified labor force as well as a potential cooperation concerning research and innovation in the region Vienna - Bratislava - Brno.

Some facts: more than 2.000 Austrian companies have invested in Slovakia, the majority of them being SMEs. These enterprises create almost 50.000 jobs in Slovakia. With a volume of 5.8 billion euro Slovakia represents the 11th most important trading partner for Austria, ranked higher than countries like Spain, Russia or Japan. Also when it comes to trade of services, a very dynamic development has been observed for the last years. Since 2010 the volume of trade increased by about 30 percent, in figures this means about 2.2 billion euro.

With FDI of about 5.7 billion dollar, Austria is the second biggest investor after the Netherlands.
