An extraordinarily comprehensive program of cultural events enables a diversified range of recreational activities. In combination with a markedly low crime rate, the high level of social security and an attractive shopping and recreational infrastructure plus moderate costs of living this sums up to top quality of life worldwide.

Good Value for Costs

Due to its cultural offerings, Austria is considered one of the most enjoyable countries in the world, but not one of the most expensive. According to the “Cost-of-Living Survey 2009“, a global comparative study carried out by the renowned management consulting company Mercer in 143 large cities, Vienna dropped two places to rank 21 in respect to living costs for employees sent abroad.

The “frontrunners” are Japan and Russia. Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world for expatriates, followed by Osaka, Moscow, Geneva, Hong Kong and Zurich. Five Asian and four European cities as well as New York comprise the top ten.

Like office rents, costs for houses or rents for appartments are among the most moderate in Central Europe.
