Austro Innovations triumph in export markets
The advancing internationalisation of the Austrian economy can also be seen in the patent applications. For example, last year alone there were a total of 3,242 inventions registered at the Austrian Patent Office , whereby companies are increasingly making the most of intellectual property protection in Europe and other export markets.
Over the past 10 years the number of patent applications made at international level by Austrian inventors has doubled worldwide. And they are set to become even more important in the future. There is an EU patent in the pipeline which will make the procedure simpler and more cost effective for innovative companies within the Union. The Patent Office acts as a strong partner to the Austrian economy as well as opening doors within the global markets.
Austrian brands represent stable assets and hold key marketing potential: in 2011 there were 6,329 brands registered at the Patent Office and 112,000 national brands are currently protected in total. Austrian businesses are increasingly choosing to protect their brands at international level in order to build up their global competitive edge.
