AUSTRIAN-UKRAINIAN BUSINESS FORUM

On July 7, 2009 the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy organized AUSTRIAN-UKRAINIAN BUSINESS FORUM on the occasion of the visit to Ukraine of the Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer.

The main goal of the Forum was to enhance the bilateral Austrian-Ukrainian economic cooperation, and this goal was achieved due to a wide range of the discussed topics as well as due to a great number of participants – representatives of government and business circles of Austria and Ukraine.

The Forum program included presentations and reports on topical issues of bilateral economic cooperation as well as presentations and experience sharing of leading Austrian companies working in Ukraine. Among the topics that attracted great attention of the participants were the questions of improving the investment climate in Ukraine, currency risk management, tax optimization, customs procedures, and selected legal aspects of entrepreneurial activity in Ukraine.

Welcome speeches to the participants of the Forum were delivered by the President of Austria Heinz Fischer, the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, the Minister of Economy of Austria Reinhold Mitterlehner, the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Bohdan Danylyshyn, the President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Serhiy Skrypchenko, and the President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Christoph Leitl.

After the official part of the Forum the President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Christoph Leitl welcomed all participants at the cocktail reception sponsored by Raiffeisen Bank Aval and Ukrsotsbank. In an informal and lively atmosphere Austrian and Ukrainian entrepreneurs had an opportunity to make new business contacts and discuss burning questions of economic cooperation.

A wide range of the discussed topics and participation in the Forum of the top-ranking officials from Austria and Ukraine ensured an effective dialogue between business and government of both countries, fostered new business contacts between Austrian and Ukrainian companies, and provided the impetus for further development of bilateral Austrian-Ukrainian economic relations.

The President of Austria Heinz Fischer and the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko stressed the necessity to intensify bilateral economic relations between Austria and Ukraine.
