The EU Commission extended the honorable offer to Leyya to officially open the EU @ SXSW house this year. The sound of this experimental/electronic-pop formation from Vienna creates a foreign but familiar surrounding - spherical, floating but also violent and impulsive.

Replicas of famous paintings (by Schiele, Klimt and Kokoschka, amongst others) are made accessible to the visitor by means of augmented reality. Using the Artivive App, visitors can see animations and additional information in AR. The experience is thus in the foreground. Postcards of the works (also enhanced with AR) will also be available - the visitor can take these home and thus keep a memory of the visit.

Music Video Competition | salute - "Storm"


The music video for Storm, a track by twenty-year-old Vienna-born, Brighton-based musician and producer salute, was directed by Raine Allen-Miller and is a celebration of culture. An African-British woman clad head to toe in Union Jack prints dances in an immaculately decorated living room whilst her family sits back and lets it unfold.

Showcase | Soia


Melancholic and gentle, then demanding and powerful, Soia’s vocals oscillate between soul and hip hop. Soia, who was born in Taiwan and lives in Vienna, and her producer Mez, a jazz pianist with Israeli roots, first collaborated for their 2011 single Obtaining. At the moment Soia and Mez are working on a new EP for 2018.
