20% more guests from the US!

Vienna’s Director of Tourism, Mr. Norbert Kettner, cannot explain how it happened, but it did: “This was the best October in history for Vienna’s tourism industry.”  In the middle of the worst economic crisis in decades, Vienna recorded 935,000 overnight stays in October 2009, the most in October ever.

Those contributing to the record October this year include guests from the United States, France, and Japan.  In October, one-fifth more American and French tourists traveled to Vienna than in October 2008.  In addition, there was massive growth in the number of tourists arriving from countries such as Greece (up 11%), China (up 16%), and Israel (up 28%). The October ranking is still led by Germany (213,000 overnight stays - down 2%), Austria (195,000 overnight stays - down 3%), and the United States (53,000 overnight stays).
