Austria’s comfort food is celebrated at restaurants all over the US

In Bon Appétit’s December issue Austrian cuisine was named “Cuisine of the Year 2010”. According to Bon Appétit’s Andrew Knowlton, the big trend in 2010 will be comfort food. Austrian cuisine with its hearty dishes and full flavors has gained a growing US audience and is celebrated at restaurants around the country.

In its recent issue, Bon Appétit featured Café Katja – the Austrian hot spot of Manhattan’s Lower East Side - and presented select recipes of Café Katja’s chefs Erwin Schrottner & Andrew Chase, such as Liptauer with rye toast and pickled red onions, pumpkin seed spaetzle and apricot Linzertorte with quark whipped cream.
