ANDRITZ to supply aluminum production lines for the automotive industry in Kentucky

February 17, 2015

Andritz Metals and sister company Schuler Group to deliver Body-in-White aluminum sheet

The US auto industry is now making vehicles lighter with aluminum parts. For example, the 2015 Ford 150 model introduced a high-strength, military grade, aluminum-alloy body for less weight, greater strength and improved fuel efficiency. How are all of these new components being produced? Manufacturing technology solutions from Austria are becoming increasingly relevant.
The Austrian-based international technology Group ANDRITZ recently received an order from the joint venture Constellium/UACJ (a Netherlands -Japan consortium) to supply a continuous annealing and pickling line and a finishing line for their Bowling Green, Kentucky production for mid-2016. Similar lines are also planned for Constellium’s facilities in Neuf-Brisach, France in the second half of 2016.
The production equipment comprises the complete mechanical and electrical equipment as well as the chemical treatment and neutralization sectors with an annual capacity of more than 100,000 tons each. It will supply Body-in-White BIW sheet to the North American automotive industry which is used to make pre-welded, pre-primed automotive unibodies.
