The “Who’s Who” of the Austrian Business Community met at AUSTRIA CONNECT NORTH AMERICA 2014 in Boston

September 25, 2014

On September 18 & 19 the executives of Austrian subsidiaries in the USA and Canada together with trusted service providers met at AUSTRIA CONNECT NORTH AMERICA, the „7th Annual Conference for Executives of Austrian Subsidiaries in the USA and Canada”. Not only the managing directors of large, well-established subsidiaries of Austrian firms/investors were in attendance, but also many newcomers and Austrian “US start ups.” The conference was completely booked with more than 130 participants and opened by the Vice President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Dr. Richard Schenz who traveled to Boston just for this prestigious event. Participants benefited from presentations on “Blueprints for the future” held by professors of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

This year’s annual get-together of the Austrian business community at the Bartos Theater in the Media Lab of the MIT started with the introductions of sponsors and participants. The keynote speaker Michael Schrage encouraged the Austrian companies to think what they want their customers to become and also told them why cheap experiments sometimes are worth more than good ideas.

Afternoon sessions were dedicated to topics like Social Physics and enduring principles for managing strategy and innovation. The program at the Bartos Theater ended with an impressive presentation by Roberto Rigobon, who explained us the reasons of the global crisis in a different way.

As always, not only “learning,” but also “sharing” were strengths of the AUSTRIA CONNECT conference. The welcome cocktail reception on Thursday night in the Harvard Faculty Club and an unforgettable gala reception at the legendary Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum gave the participants plenty of time to network and mingle with likeminded peers.

AUSTRIA CONNECT NORTH AMERICA was made possible by the generous support of Arnall Golden Gregory, Bank Austria / Unicredit, Dale & Lessmann, Erste, Hörbiger, Plansee Group, RB International Finance USA, Rödl & Partner, Weiss Röhlig and Wolfsdorf Immigration Law Corp and through a cooperation with the Industrial Liaison Program of the MIT. AUSTRIA CONNECT NORTH AMERICA was also co-financed with funds from GO INTERNATIONAL, a shared initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research, and Economy and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. We want to thank all participants and contributors for a great couple of days!
