Thirteen Austrian automotive suppliers participated in the trade mission “North American Automotive Industry 2012 and Beyond” to the US and Canada, which took place from November 6-10, 2011. The event was organized by the Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago and Toronto in order to promote the cooperation between Austrian and North American companies and to support the participating companies in their North American activities.
The mission started in Chattanooga, TN as a fact-finding trip to better understand the “Detroit of the South” as well as to visit the newly opened Volkswagen plant. Following Chattanooga, the delegation visited Detroit. There, Chrysler opened its doors and explained how the new Chrysler/Fiat coalition has resulted in a positive cultural change with their suppliers.

All the participating Austrian companies were pleased to personally the North American Purchasing Chief at Volkswagen, and the Director for Supplier Relations at Chrysler, who welcomed the group with open arms. Industry experts from such organizations as the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA), Center for Automotive Research (CAR) and PriceWaterHouseCooper Autofacts provided in-depth economic analysis of the current US auto market.

The Canada portion of the mission took the participants to the National Research Council London (Ontario), the University of Waterloo, and WatCAR.
