Owner Michael Mikusch honored at anniversary bash, guests vote with stomachs for many more years

It only takes a whiff of Bergstiegerbrot and other artisan breads, one look at a flaky Apfelstrudel or other pastry, or a quick study of the soup and sandwich menu to draw local Chicago residents through the doors. In October, 2009, the Austrian Bakery held a five year anniversary celebration, whereby guests were presented with an exquisite buffet and raffle offering a great variety of delicacies.

Owner Michael Mikusch received a certificate from the Austrian Consul General Robert Zischg and Austrian Trade Commissioner Franz Roessler in grateful appreciation for Mikusch’s dedication to the craft of quality Austrian baking. Gerhard Kaes, President of the Austrian American Council, along with many friends and customers also came to celebrate the occasion.

Originally from the province of Styria, Mr. Mikusch has added to Chicago’s diverse ethnic foodscape by maintaining the integrity and authenticity of baked goods and delicacies from Austria. Mingling in the reception proved that there is only one group more appreciative of typical Austrian food than expatriate Austrians: the Austrian Bakery’s genuine American regulars!
