ESW Takes Long-Term View of Global Industry Downturn as a Growth Opportunity

"You have to tap into new market segments in order to continue doing business, especially in times of crisis," comments Rudolf Weinberger, owner of the Austrian Eisenwerk Sulzau-Werfen (ESW) regarding his firm´s recent acquisition of the US specialty foundry Miller Centrifugal Casting (MCC). Describing the firm as the “ideal companion”, Weinberger believes MCC will not only expand ESW´s product range, but also expand its role in the global marketplace. ESW is already a world leading roll foundry, exporting over 95% of its production from its pristine location at Sulzau in the Alps of Salzburg province.

Both EES and MCC were established as privately held firms and have decades of industry expertise. Located in Cecil, Pennsylvania with 2008 sales of approximately $21 million, MCC is specialized in designing, casting and finishing high grade, centrifugally cast ferrous and non-ferrous products for a variety of commercial, industrial, and military applications. ESW 2008 sales were approximately $115 million (83 million Euros), primarily to the steel industry. ESW prides itself on providing the highest product quality available by offering customers innovative technology, flexibility and individual service while maintaining a high level of environmental stewardship.
