April 23, 2009

The man who turned Engel into a global market leader in the plastics industry

Georg Schwarz, now retired President & CEO of Engel Austria will be one of nine industry pioneers from the US, Canada, South Africa and Italy to be honored for their fundamental accomplishments in plastics polymers, processing and applications. The ceremony will be held on June 22, 2009 after the first day of the NPE trade show.

Engel produced their first injection molding press in 1952. When Georg Schwarz took over Engel’s management in 1965, the company had 380 employees. Schwarz improved the manufacturing process and built a global sales network. Four decades later, Engel employs more than 3,700 in 85 countries with annual sales in excess of USD 980 million. Just last month, Engel opened at 7,300-square-foot technical center in Corona, CA to serve the West Coast as well as portions of northern Mexico.

The Plastics Hall of Fame was founded in 1972 to honor executives – 144 thus far - for their achievements that have contributed to the growth of the global plastics industry.
