Chamber President Leitl Draws Crowds in Boston and Chicago

December 10, 2011

Christoph Leitl talks US and European politics at MIT and Chicago Council on Global Affairs

From December 7 to 9, Christoph Leitl, President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, drew crowds when he visited Chicago and Boston during his first official Midwest/East Coast tour.

Leitl, who is one of Europe's top experts on inter-governmental politics, stressed that the European Union was here to stay. He also confessed that many European decision makers would view the US hesitation to put stricter regulations on the financial sector with great concern.

Apart from lectures at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Leitl stated in an interview with the Boston Globe that „We (the European Union) made mistakes but after the reforms Project Europe will be going stronger than ever. There is no Plan B.“

Leitl's visit was jointly organized by Advantage Austria's New York and Chicago offices, with Trade Commissioners Christian Kesberg and Franz Roessler accompanying him on his trip.
