Energy Technology Forum   -   4 March 2013

The World Bank welcomed 15 companies from Germany, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Canada and the US on 4th of March 2013 to present projects, innovations and technologies from the sector of renewable energy. The so called Energy Technology Forum addressed World Bank experts and project managers but also energy professionals from institutions and think tanks outside the bank. Industry representatives discussed in five separate panels the importance of natural gas for energy security, innovation in wind, wave and tidal power generation, fuelcell, solar and biomass applications, and smart grid.

Vijay Iyer, director of the World Bank’s Sustainable Energy Department and chair of the event praised the Energy Technology Forum as a great opportunity to intensify the dialogue between the World Bank and the private sector. He argued that energy is key to the development cooperation; other issues like health, education and economy are linked directly to energy. He also expressed his wish to maintain the excellent relations and network between the World Bank and the trade representatives of the four organizing countries.

The Energy Technology Forum was offered in the context of the World Bank Sustainable Development Network Forum (SDN-Forum) as an education opportunity for employees of the bank. It was initiated and co-organized by the embassies of Denmark and Canada, the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) and the Austrian Embassy-Commercial section, which spearheaded the project this year. More than 150 people attended the conference.
