Renowned Austrian company makes first glass for nonalcoholic drink

Riedel is the Austrian glassware maker that has been creating glasses to match different wine grapes for decades. As published in a NYT article, it just introduced a glass commissioned by the soft drink giant, Coca Cola. “Coca-Cola recommends drinking from the original glass bottle, and this shape suggests it,” said Georg J. Riedel, who heads the 250-year-old company. “We brought 18 glasses to the tasting panel in Atlanta and our sauvignon blanc glass seemed best, so we fine-tuned that bowl shape to form the glass.” It’s Riedel’s first for a nonalcoholic drink.

Riedel: “Inspired by the iconic curves of the original Coca-Cola contour bottle, this glass is designed to enhance the drinking experience. Shaped by trial and error by a panel of industry experts and Coca-Cola lovers, this form captures the distinct spices, aroma, and taste of Coca-Cola and creates a magical sensorial experience. A unique glass for a taste like no other. “
