Austria joins the European Festival of Wine and Spirit

Europe Day, held on May 9, 2011 in Chicago, again represented the constantly developing historic alliance of European countries. The traditional May 9th event was organized by Hungary which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of Europe and was hosted by the Consulates General and Honorary Consulates based in Chicago and the Midwest. The Hungarian Consul General from New York, Karoly Dan, addressed the 200+ guests explaining some of the policy priorities under the Hungarian Presidency in 2011. The outgoing Mayor of the City of Chicago Richard M. Daley also greeted the Europe Day celebration and his message was read by Eileen Hubbell, Director of International Relations. Importers, distributors and Trade Commissions from a record 17 EU countries sampled their carefully selected high quality drinks.

Austria was represented by Wein Bauer (quality wines), Stanley Stawski Distributing (Austrian Gösser, Edelweiss, and Zipfer beers), Austrian Bakery (artisanal breads and pastries), Koval Distillery (white whiskey & liqueurs) and Austria’s Finest Naturally (Styrian pumpkin seeds & pumpkin seed oil).
Those who attended the festivities at the Hotel Sofitel Grand Ballroom really got into the European Spirit!
