Red Bull Stratos Team awarded in Los Angeles

"Excellence in Aviation" Award for Red Bull Stratos and Felix Baumgartner

On the historic date of October 14th,2012 Felix Baumgartner became the first person to jump from the stratosphere, break through the sound barrier and reach Mach 1.25!

Saturday May 18th, 2013 the Flight Test Historical Foundation, Edwards presented the "Excellence in Aviation Award" in Los Angeles to the Red Bull Stratos team, which included Stratos jumper Felix Baumgartner, the previous record holder retired Col. Joe Kittinger and the technical mastermind of the Stratos mission Art Thompson/CEO of Sage Cheshire Aerospace.

Numerous VIP guests - pioneers of space travel and test pilots who made made flight history - were present at the ceremony for the historical event. The award was bestowed by retired Brigadier General Robert Cardenas, who led the X-1 project, when a manned aircraft flew faster than sound for the first time 65 years ago. Previous winners included astronaut "Buzz" Aldrin, who took part in the moon landing of Apollo 11th.

Red Bull has been hailed as a "great project partner." Red Bull entrusted all data generated in the stratosphere mission to scientists - thus making a significant contribution to the future of space travel - and provided valuable information for the next generation of pressure suits and Mach-grade parachutes.

Consul General Karin Proidl and Trade Commissioner Rudolf Thaler congratulated the Red Bull Stratos team and Felix Baumgartner.

On the day of the Academy Awards, the Austrian Trade Commission Los Angeles awarded Red Bull for their Stratos mission with the U.S.-A-Biz Award 2013, the Oscar for business excellence of Austrian companies in the USA. Red Bull has its U.S. Headquarters in Los Angeles.
