Call taking solution has a total term value of $7.1 million

After an open, competitive, best value procurement spanning 2 years, the Maryland Department of State
Police (MDSP) received contract approval from the Maryland Board of Public
Works for a multi-year Frequentis PROTECT™ NG9-1-1 Call Taking solution. This will bring MDSP’s 22
Barracks into the technology leadership fold. With a total term value of $7.1 million, MDSP and
Frequentis will conduct a systematic and phased rollout of this revolutionary platform, transitioning the
State Police and its partner stakeholders to a Next Gen ready environment directly benefitting Governor
Martin O’Malley’s strategic public safety initiative for interoperability. MDSP embraced the National
Emergency Number Association (NENA) i3 (Next Generation 9-1-1) architecture and shows leadership
as one of the first agencies nationwide to implement a Next Generation solution.

This solution will not only revolutionize the way public safety communications are managed, but directly
help the state achieve another of the Governor’s strategic initiatives of transitioning to the One-Maryland
Broadband Network. Utilization of networkMD, the fiber backbone being deployed and managed by
Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) will provide a more efficient and cost-effective
means of serving Maryland’s communication needs.

“We were looking for a vendor with top technology providing a total Next Generation NENA i3 solution,
making use of Network Maryland IP backbone provided by our Department of Information Technology.
This vendor had to be willing and able to adapt and develop new solutions specific to our operations here
in Maryland. Frequentis worked with us and all the stakeholders through what was a very detailed and
diligent procurement process, proving to all that we not only made the best technology decision but an
excellent partner investment. Frequentis brings us a technology advantage which will bring our Barracks
to the future of how emergency communications and information exchanges will occur” says Michael
Roosa, Maryland State Police Chief Information Officer.

FREQUENTIS USA, serving agencies with its mission critical communication needs such as the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the defense
and security sectors in the US for many years, brings its industry-leading emergency operations platform
PROTECT™ to the highly demanding and mission critical needs of tomorrow’s public safety emergency
operations centers. The PROTECT™ Public Safety portfolio, developed to serve as an Application-Centric Control Room® for this transforming public safety industry, was designed specifically for NG9-1-1.
Using NENA i3 as the framework to provide an industry standard, modularized, state-of-the-art software
solution. Leveraging the power and flexibility of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), the PROTECT™
system is comprised of client services connected via a middleware layer, known as the FREQUENTIS
SAFETY FRAMEWORK™.

“Frequentis brings to the public safety industry a unique and revolutionary solution that is not only an
end-to-end communications solution, but a technology consolidation strategy in itself, a PSAP experience
designed around real-world operations and data flows. The PROTECT™ platform is unique in this market
as it is the only integrated, yet uncoupled, emergency operations applications designed specifically
based on Next Gen roadmaps, not based on specific market segments of traditional operation. It is an
honor to have been selected for this program by such a diverse and esteemed committee and we are
excited to work with the State Police and team stakeholders as we bring the vision to reality”, says
Robert Clark, Director Business Development, Public Safety and Homeland Security.
