200 Mio. EUR new Investments from 2008 to 2010

The Austrian (Wien-Aspern) General Motors factory “Powertrain-Austria ” started the production of the newly developed 1.4 liter ECOTEC fuel-engine. This flexible and high-performance engine was developed for a wide range of products. The turbo-engine was first used in the new Opel Astra and will soon be used in the Opel models Meriva, Zafira, Insginia and the Chevrolet Cruze.

Starting in 2010, the 1.4 Liter Turbo-Engine will be exported to the USA, playing an important role in the new Chevrolet Cruze line. High performance, high reliability and a low fuel consumption of 40 miles per gallon is completely in line with the Chevrolet brand and their focus on fuel efficiency (as per Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations).

General Motors Powertrain-Austria produces about 1 Mio. engines and gear boxes, and is therefore the largest General Motors Powertrain factory worldwide. In the thirty years of their existence, the Austrian team sets continually high standards for quality, reliability and productivity. Their continuing implementation of downsize-technology in their product portfolio allowed Powertrain-Austria to be a trend-setter. This will allow Powertrain-Austria to play a large role internally as well as in the European and international market.

Since the opening of the Wien-Aspen subsidiary the total investment was 2.2 billion EUR and is the home of 1.800 workers.
