Immersion learning starts at pre-kindergarten level

German School Chicago (GSC), a German immersion day school, opened its doors to its pre-kindergarten inaugural class in September, 2009.  The mission of GSC is to build a school from kindergarten to 12th grade to prepare students of all nationalities for the global reality of today’s world.

The German School Chicago is tuition-based for children ages 3, 4 and 5 (pre-school and kindergarten years). Students from German and non-German speaking families are accepted.  Special emphasis is placed on spoken language development in the early years with the goal of total oral fluency in German upon entering first grade at age 6.  Preschool classes consist of multi-age groups of up to 20 children per group.  Depending on group size, each class is taught by one native German speaker teacher and one or two fully fluent German-speaking assistants with early childhood education and related experience.  GSC offers half- and full-day programs Monday through Friday. In order to encourage immersion learning, the school recommends students attend five days a week.

The school is located at 1447 West Montrose in the Ravenswood/Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago.  For further information, please contact Rhonda Duffaut (rduffaut@germanschoolchicago.com), tel. (773) 880-8812, www.germanschoolchicago.com.
