Leading Austrian packaging concern expands its operations

Greiner Packaging , a subsidiary of the Greiner group headquartered in Kremsmünster, Upper Austria, took over Expan, a plastic bottle and closure manufacturer in Carinthia on July 1. The firm also has locations in Wernberg, Austria and Rastatt in Germany. As a result of this transaction, Rastatt becomes Greiner Packaging’s first production location in Germany. Willi Eibner, CEO of Greiner Packaging International: “Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg is located in the midst of one of the most competitive, most innovative and strongest economic regions in Europe. Also from the logistical point of view, a location in the southwest of Germany is ideally suited to our demands and to our customers’ needs.”

Expan was founded in Klagenfurt (Austria) in 1956. The company specializes in the development and production of plastic bottles and closure systems, as well as high-quality decoration. First and foremost, Expan supplies its products to customers in sectors such as cosmetics, household, food, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Expan's portfolio comprises more than 1,500 products. Its particular strengths are its distinct technological know-how in the area of extrusion blow molding and in the production of multi-layer containers.

Greiner Packaging International is one of the leading companies in the European packaging industry. In 2009, the company achieved sales of EUR 357 million or 35 per cent of total Greiner Group sales. Greiner Packaging International employs 2,878 people at 28 production sites in Europe.
