September 24, 2012

Eight Austrian related exhibitors consider key manufacturing technology show in US a success

Held every two years in Chicago, the International Manufacturing Technology Show IMTS 2012 held in Chicago from September 10-15 was proof that manufacturing is alive and well in the US, and Austrian-related firms are playing an active role. The exhibiting firms covered a wide array of expertise from metrology (high precision measurement technology) to precision steel and high precision metal working machines which create the components for the car of the future. A list of Austrian-related exhibitors at IMTS can be downloaded here .

Several trends were evident at the show. Manufacturing is undergoing fundamental shifts as new products can be engineered via the Internet, a process called collaborative manufacturing. New technology known as additive manufacturing or 3D printing is enabling precision parts to be made away from factories in shapes that were not possible earlier. At the same time, the worldwide shortage of skilled labor is being addressed to fully utilize the latest technical developments. More information can be found from IMTS here . In addition, a more complete 80-page report of the state of US manufacturing technology related to Austrian technology is available free of charge from ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA by contacting us.

Austrian-related firms, most of which have long-established local credibility in the US, share several success factors: 1) they offer a high level of technical quality expertise 2) they focus on niche industries and work closely with customers to maintain their market lead and 3) they follow their customers, quite often multinational firms, by offering local support in their customers´ key marketplaces. As manufacturing leads the economic recovery in the US, this Austrian formula for success continues to work!
