Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS awarded North Tarrant Express and LBJ Express Projects in North Texas
Project is the largest and most comprehensive system to be built in the US in the last 20 years
Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS, Inc., a subsidiary of Austrian Kapsch TrafficCom AG has been selected to design, build, and integrate the Managed Lane System (MLS) for both the North Tarrant Express (NTE) and LBJ Express projects in Dallas and Tarrant Counties in North Texas. The project scope for Kapsch encompasses delivery of a Toll Collection System (TCS), Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), and Network Communication System (NCS), creating a fully integrated MLS. The agreement signed today extends more than thirty miles of "managed lanes" – specifically used, administered and tolled lanes to arrange the traffic according to different requirements and demands -- with sixty-five toll lanes and thirty-three toll zones. The total contract value for the implementation of the system reaches approximately USD 79 million. The first phase of the system will start operation in the second half of 2013.
"Winning the NTE and LBJ projects represents a major accomplishment for Kapsch in North America and around the world. Road transportation issues such as network performance, congestion, variable pricing, work zones, air pollution and pavement quality are among the top ranked concerns of private, commercial and public transportation users. Kapsch strives to deliver superior, technology centric end-to-end solutions in a highly competitive market," said Georg Kapsch, Chief Executive Officer of Kapsch TrafficCom Group.
