American company and Austrian university working together over 10 years

The IT group Oracle officially opened a research laboratory located on the premises of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz. The American company and the university have been cooperating for more than 10 years. An estimated six billion workstations, PCs and smart phones are estimated to run on Java, according to the university. Technology development at the university together with Oracle is found in almost every one of these devices.

"The opening of the Oracle Research Laboratory in April underlines the quality of research being carried out at JKU”, says Thomas Würthinger, who heads the laboratory. In the future, the research lab will be intensively cooperating with the Institute for System Software aiming to jointly work on developing a new architecture for a Java execution system, in particular for the parallelization of software on multi-core systems.
