At the March, 2009 International Home & Housewares Show the Austrian glass maker Riedel introduced its new lead crystal, mouth-blown EVE decanter.  Its serpentine curves double-decant wine as it flows through the coiled shape.  This is another product innovation from the Tyrolean company which enjoys a great reputation in the wine world.  Decanting young wines several hours before they are served gives the wine a chance to bloom and attain a stage of development that normally requires years of aging.

Time Magazine showcased Riedel in its 2008 “Best of Wine Decanters ” feature by stating: “The Riedel family has never stamped its name on a single bottle of wine.  But over the past 50 years, this Austrian clan of master glassmakers has done more to enhance the oenophile’s pleasure than almost any winemaking dynasty." The firm’s founder Claus Riedel was the first person in the long history of the glass to design its shape according to the character of the wine.  He is thus the inventor of the functional wine glass.
