Starlinger viscotec receives FDA approval to produce food-grade flakes
Austrian company leaps into promising market within the food packaging industry
Starlinger viscotec has received FDA approval for its deCON decontamination dryer to make food-grade flakes from post-consumer recycled HDPE milk bottles. The decontamination dryer has so far been used only for PET materials due to low customer requests for other polymers. A customer inquiry about the possibility of recycling HDPE milk bottles and using the recyclate again for milk and juice bottles, yogurt containers, and meat trays prompted the company to research this area further.
Starlinger viscotec has already sold two decontamination dryers for food-grade recovery of PCR HDPE.
viscotec is the solid state polycondensation (SSP) division of Starlinger & Co GmbH. viscotec’s SSP reactors serve to decontaminate and increase the viscosity recycled PET pellets and flakes. They are either used after a recycling extruder, before a production extruder or as a stand-alone machine.
