Support the Austrian Team Competing at the Solar Decathlon in Irvine, CA

Solar Decathlon 2013
May 10, 2013

Vienna University of Technology team showcasing European excellence in sustainable building technologies

The biennial U.S. Dept. of Energy Solar Decathlon is taking place outside of Washington, D.C., for the first time in its 12-year history. The 2013 Solar Decathlon is being held from Oct. 3 – 13, 2013 in Orange County-Southern California! And a team from the Vienna University of Technology is competing this year.

The Solar Decathlon is the most challenging university competition in the field of sustainable building worldwide. From 130 entries submitted by university and college teams from around the world in 2011, 20 projects were selected to present their vision by competing in the Solar Decathlon 2013. The Vienna University of Technology’s Team Austria entry – the L.I.S.I. house concept (Living Inspired by Sustainable Innovation) -- made the running as one of just 2 European teams to qualify in this round. L.I.S.I.’s outer façade textile shell adapts to the needs of its occupants and actively supports meeting all the technological demands of a high-tech, net-positive-energy home. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
