THE AUSTRIAN NATIONAL HOLIDAY 2013 was celebrated in style

October 18, 2013

Festive occasion has note of sadness due to closing of Austrian Consulate General

The Austrian Consulate General together with the Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago put on quite an evening October 16 at the Sofitel Hotel for about 300 guests. Although the atmosphere was festive, the event marked the closing of the Austrian Consulate General in Chicago on November 30, 2013. After this date, the Austrian Consulates General in New York and Los Angeles as well as the Austrian Embassy in Washington in cooperation with an enlarged network of honorary consuls will continue to foster relations between Austria and the U.S. On a positive note, the Austrian Trade Commission in Chicago will remain open, continuing to support the Austrian business community.

Thomas Schnöll, the outgoing Austrian Consul General who has been appointed Austrian Ambassador to Albania, looked back over his tenure in Chicago and expressed his gratitude to the Austrian and “friends of Austria” community and took the occasion to introduce Rein Krammer, an attorney in Chicago with roots in Burgenland, as the Honorary Austrian Consul-designate. Austrian Consul General in New York Dr. Georg Heindl also welcomed the crowd, followed by Austrian Trade Commissioner Franz Rössler, who thanked the Austrian business community for their continuing support.

The evening’s success was due in large part to the generosity of the many sponsors from the Austrian/American business community:
