The Austrian Trade Commission Los Angeles awards Austrian companies for their outstanding achievements in the U.S. market

The Austrian Trade Commission Los Angeles, part of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (Wirtschaftskammer Österreich), will hand out its third annual US-A-Biz Award, the "WirtschaftsOskar", for outstanding achievements by Austrian companies in the U.S. market.
“With this award, we wish to welcome Austrian companies that are successful in the United States on the red carpet and put them into the media spotlight. The U.S. has the largest and most competitive market in the world: innovation, marketing, strategy, networking and speed are crucial for success. Large companies as well as small and start-up enterprises proof successful in specific markets and technology niches”, says Rudolf Thaler, Austrian Trade Commissioner in Los Angeles.

Michael Haneke's film "AMOUR" is Austria’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards on 24 February 2013 and has received five Oscar-nominations. Christoph Waltz is in the competition for “Best Supporting Actor” for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”. And 18 nominations for Austrian entrepreneurial excellence in the U.S. have been confirmed for the US-A-Biz Award.

And the Nominees for the US-A-Biz Award 2013 are:

In the category ‘spectacular’:
- CAMCAT-SYSTEMS GMBH delivered spectacular images for the NBC broadcast of the U.S. presidential election with its hi-tech cable car cameras.
- Red Bull GmbH and extreme sportsman Felix Baumgartner made PR history with a record Space Dive from the edge of the stratosphere.
- TechnoAlpin Austria GmbH operates the largest automated snowmaking system in the United States out of Sun Valley Ski Resort.

In the category ‘trendsetter’:
- AVL List GmbH has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for two major initiatives to test the emissions- and fuel efficiency for hybrid and electric vehicles.
- GE Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG offers an important contribution to the achievement of California's environmental goals with the first power generation project for a greenhouse.
- Frequentis AG signs a ten-year agreement with the FAA air traffic control and sets industry standards. Control Support for the successful NASA Mars mission. All NASA ground stations in the world are equipped with Frequentis voice communication systems. New strategic business breakthrough is the area of public safety.
- Getzner GmbH, a specialist for vibration dampers, installs the first full-surface elastic building storage in the United States. The high-tech materials used are unique and come from their own R & D and production.

in the category ‘innovation’:
- Anger Machining GmbH is supplying the largest transmission plant in North America - the largest contract in its history – with the most modern machinery for the latest generation of 9-speed automatic transmissions. They delivered 900,000 parts per year with 2 - 4 thousandth mm accuracy to Chrysler. High tech from Austria for the growing U.S. auto industry.
- KNAPP AG equips the logistics center of the renowned shoe manufacturer Clarks with a multi-channel solution that addresses different sales channels in a confined space. 50 million pairs of shoes per year are stored and shipped.
- Pankl Aerospace Systems Europe GmbH won with its H.E.R.O. - concept, a world innovation in helicopter design, the first place in the prestigious Sikorsky Entrepreneurial Challenge.
- RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems GmbH allows for the first time the simultaneous high-resolution measurement of shallow water and land terrain for commercial use. RIEGL was awarded the "Geospatial Excellence Award" by MAPPS (Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors).

in the category ‘investment’:
- Pewag austria GmbH, the market leader for premium snow chains, built its first plant outside Europe in Pueblo, Colorado. Prominent customers are UPS, Fed Ex and the U.S. military.
- voestalpine AG invests 50 million Euro in the automotive sector in a production facility for press-hardened ultra-strength steels. Furthermore the construction of a plant in North America to produce direct reduced iron ore pellets is planned. First stage: 500 million Euros.

in the category ‘Start-Up’:
- Blue Monkeys GmbH - with their new U.S. office Everbill - received in record time of only two months funding from the choosy venture capital firm 500 Startups (600 applications per week). Everbill creates Internet accounting documents for small businesses.
- Stratodesk GmbH is a provider of terminal services and acquired large customers in the biotechnology, banking and university sectors. The University of Alaska purchased Stratodesk solutions for several hundred desktops and PCs.

in the category ‘market penetration’:
- Eckelt Glas GmbH, specializes in complex glass solutions and provided 4,000 qm special glasses for the new metro station at Ground Zero in Manhattan. The insulating glass with a special sun protective coating ensures that the building is flooded with light, without losing too much energy and warmth to the interior.
- GREENoneTEC solar industry GmbH set up California's largest solar thermal installation for an apartment complex with 2,800 residential units. Major U.S. producers are supplied with absorbers.
- Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG (SBO) with its high performance drill motors and circulation tools is market leader in the US. SBO is a quality and technology leader in the industry.

The winner of the US-A-Biz Award 2013 will be announced by the Austrian Trade Commission Los Angeles shortly before the Academy Awards on February 24th, 2013.
