Record numbers of engines and transmissions at its Wien-Aspern powertrain factory

Every second Opel worldwide and every second GM vehicle in Europe has an engine or transmission which was manufactured at this plant.

Priorities for the coming year include increasing the already-high quality of the engines and transmissions produced at Wien-Aspern as well as maintaining its current number one worldwide productivity ranking for engine production in the prestigious Harbour Report. The Harbour Report is widely regarded to be the world’s most important analysis on productivity in the automobile industry.

The plant is also preparing for production of the third generation ECOTEC engines which will begin in 2009.

In 2007 almost 460,000 engines and over 1.1 million transmissions (a total of 1.575.810 units) were produced at the GM Austrian Powertrain plant at Wien-Aspern . This is an increase of approximately 25,000 units over 2006 production.

Of the total 2007 production, almost 90% was delivered to Opel/Vauxhall, 10% to Fiat and almost 1% to Suzuki. The final shipping destination of these engines and transmissions was mostly to European Union countries with the majority going to Germany and Spain .

The GM Wien-Aspern powertrain plant in Austria has approximately 2200 employees. The plant celebrated its 25 th anniversary in 2007.
